Habitat 16 Dedicated

This afternoon was a great!  We gathered to dedicate Habitat 16 to the glory of God, to the memory of Harley Laek, and to the use and enjoyment of the Hulse Family.  The house was filled to overflowing with family and friends.  Michael, Carman, and Jason were presented a Habitat family Bible, a framed copy of the Covenant, and keys to their new home.  We remembered the work, thanked all who worked to make it happen, and prayed for God's continued blessings.

Many members of the Harley Laek family attended the Dedication.  As Reverend Tom Phillips put it, "Harley Laek was a Christian gentleman."  Harley was loved and treasured by many.  We pray that the building and dedication of this house is a fitting tribute to his memory.

Holston Habitat, the Habitat Resale Store, Waverly Road Presbyterian, The Journey Church of Gray, and Colonial Heights Presbyerian were all well represented at the Dedication.  The pastors of all three churches expressed how glad they were to have had the opportunity for our congregations to work together.  I even heard comments that we should do this again.  Who knows, we just might.

Oyee!

Call it done!

There are just a few details left to take care of.  Today the plumbers are finishing with the bathrooms and water heater.  The closet shelving has been done and Keith has been hanging the blinds.  On Wednesday we will clean the house from stem to stern.  Bring your mops and brooms and cleaning supplies.  Oyee!

Note the change in the time of the Dedication above.  We will dedicate this house on Sunday, November 4 at 3 p.m.

Almost Done!

Today was an interesting day we like to call "Double Day".  We had Paul & Paul, Charles & Charles, John & John, Jon & Jon, and Ron & Ron working at the house.  The Paul's were putting up kitchen cabinets and counter top.  The John's were finishing the trim around the windows and the baseboards.  The Charles' were doing electrical and helping out with the trim and delivering appliances.  The Jon's were painting and visiting fom another site.  The Ron's were finishing the plumbing.  There were other people helping with odd jobs and painting (Linda, Sandy, Fred, Sydney, & Curtis).  About all that is left to do is some caulking, some touch up paint, shelves in the closets, final details on the electrical and clean-up.  I think we might make it!

By the way, with all the rain we had today the grass in the yard came up and must have grown about an inch.  Thanks again to the Youth for their landscaping.

The Flooring Looks Great!

Everyone who worked today went home tired but satisfied with the progress.  Pete, Karen, Linda, Paul, Cecil, Chuck, Charles, and John worked like crazy and they finished the floors.  Carman was thrilled with the way they look!  Charles Barrett continues to make progress with the electrical work and Jerry Johnson's crew is all but finished with the Heat and Air Conditioning installation.  Johnny Johnson is putting down the vinyl in the kitchen tonight.  Tomorrow we will install doors and hang cabinets.  Work will continue on electrial and plumbing.  Come on out and join us!
